This Privacy Policy explains how Alter ("Alter", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use our AI‑companion application and related services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
We collect only what is needed to operate the Service:
We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve the Service — including generating AI responses, storing your conversation history so it is available across sessions, delivering notifications, and keeping your account secure. We do not use your private conversations to advertise to you.
To generate responses, images, and voice, and to understand content you share, we send the relevant content to trusted third‑party AI and infrastructure providers ("sub‑processors"). Each processes your content only to return a result to us, under its own terms and privacy policy. Our current sub‑processors are:
We encourage you not to share financial or identifying information (such as full name, address, or payment details) within conversations. Because our companions support intimate and adult (18+) interactions, see the next section for how we handle sensitive data and the explicit consent we ask for.
If you enable explicit content (18+), your intimate messages, and any explicit photos or voice you exchange, can reveal information about your sex life or sexual orientation. Under the EU/UK GDPR this is a "special category" of personal data (Article 9), and under U.S. laws such as the California CPRA it is "sensitive personal information."
We do not process this category of data unless you give explicit, separate consent. When you first turn on explicit content, we show a dedicated consent screen that discloses the sub‑processors listed above and asks you to confirm you are 18+ and to explicitly consent to this processing. We record the date and consent‑text version of your choice as proof of consent.
Your consent is voluntary and revocable. You can withdraw it at any time in Settings → Privacy → My consents; withdrawing turns explicit content off, and we stop processing this category of data going forward. We process sensitive data solely to provide the explicit companion features you request — never to advertise to you or to build profiles for third parties.
Your account information, conversation history, and uploaded media are stored using Supabase, our backend and cloud storage provider. Access is protected by authentication and row‑level security so that, in normal operation, you can only access your own data. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information; however, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to third parties. We share information only with the service providers described above (such as OpenRouter and Supabase) strictly to operate the Service, or where required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.
We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. You may delete individual conversations and media within the app, or request deletion of your account, after which we will delete or anonymize your associated data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. You can also manage or delete much of your content directly within the app.
The Service is intended strictly for adults aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
