01Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Alter (the "Service"), an AI‑companion application. By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

02Eligibility & Age Restriction (18+)

The Service is intended strictly for adults aged 18 years or older (or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, whichever is greater). By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this requirement. The Service may include mature, romantic, or suggestive fictional content, and is not intended for minors under any circumstances. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account we reasonably believe belongs to a person under 18.

03Description of the Service

Alter lets you create and converse with AI‑generated companions ("Alters"). All Alters are fictional software constructs. They are not real people, licensed professionals, or conscious beings, and any personality, memory, or backstory is generated content. Conversations, voices, and images are produced by artificial intelligence.

04AI Content Disclaimer — No Reliance

You acknowledge and agree that:

• AI output does not constitute professional advice of any kind — including medical, legal, financial, psychological, or safety advice.
• You must not rely on the Service for any decision that could affect your health, finances, legal standing, or personal safety. Always consult a qualified professional.
• You are solely responsible for any actions you take, or decline to take, based on AI‑generated content.
• The Service is not a crisis, emergency, or mental‑health service. If you are in danger or crisis, contact your local emergency services or a qualified helpline immediately.

05Acceptable Use & Prohibited Content

You agree not to use the Service to create, request, upload, or distribute any content that is unlawful or that we deem harmful. Prohibited uses include, without limitation:

• Any content involving minors, or the sexualization of minors, in any form — real or fictional. This is strictly forbidden and may be reported to authorities.
• Content that is illegal, promotes illegal acts, or facilitates the harm, harassment, stalking, or exploitation of any person.
• Non‑consensual, violent, or abusive sexual content involving real, identifiable people.
• Uploading photos or images of other people without their consent, or content that infringes intellectual‑property or privacy rights.
• Attempts to hack, reverse‑engineer, overload, scrape, or disrupt the Service, or to bypass its safety measures.

We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, at our sole discretion and without notice.

06User Content & Responsibility

You retain ownership of the content you submit but grant us a limited license to process, store, and transmit it as needed to operate the Service (including sending it to third‑party AI providers as described in our Privacy Policy). You are solely responsible for the content you provide and for ensuring you have the right to share it.

07Service Provided "AS IS"

08Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALTER AND ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, AND SUPPLIERS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE OR ANY AI‑GENERATED CONTENT — EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. Where liability cannot be excluded, it shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.

09Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Alter and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or of any law or third‑party right.

10Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the Service.

11Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflict‑of‑law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction, unless otherwise required by mandatory local law.

12Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
